Doha Metro Guide: Lines, Fares, and How to Ride
How to use the Doha Metro today: the three current lines, standard and Gold Club card fares, how to buy a card, and how the free Metrolink feeder buses connect to stations.

The Doha Metro is Qatar's main rail network, and using it comes down to picking a card and knowing your line. This guide covers how the system works today. For news on the metro's ongoing expansion, including the future Blue Line, see our separate article on the Doha Metro network's expansion. We read Qatar Rail's own published fares policy, dated May 2023, plus its own metro site, alongside independent guides, in September 2026.
The current network
The Doha Metro currently operates three lines: Red, Green, and Gold, covering 37 stations including two interchange stations. The Red Line runs along the coast connecting areas such as Lusail, Msheireb, and Hamad International Airport. The Green and Gold lines connect other parts of the city, including Education City and West Bay. Qatar Rail's own site is the authoritative source for the current line map and station list, since new stations have opened in phases.
Fares and cards
| Card type | Cost | Fare per journey | Daily cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard card | QR10 (reusable) | QR2 | QR6 |
| Gold Club card | QR100 | QR10 | QR30 |
| 365-day MetroPass | QR990 | Unlimited | Not applicable |
The Standard card is the practical choice for most riders. The Gold Club card gives access to a more comfortable carriage and lounge areas at a higher fare. The 365-day MetroPass is reported to cover both the Doha Metro and the Lusail Tram for a full year from first use. These figures come from Qatar Rail's fares policy document and are widely repeated by independent guides, but fares can change, so confirm the current price on Qatar Rail's own app or at a station before you travel.
Buying and using a card
- Buy or top up a card at ticket machines inside any metro station.
- Tap the card on the reader when you enter and again when you exit. The system calculates your fare based on the journey.
- A single card can generally be used by one rider at a time, since it is tapped in and out per journey.
- Cards can also be topped up through Qatar Rail's own app, where available.
The Metrolink feeder bus
Metrolink is a feeder bus network that connects surrounding neighborhoods to metro stations for the first and last part of a journey. It is reported to be free of charge and is a practical way to reach a station if you are not within walking distance of one.
Connecting to the Lusail Tram
The Lusail Tram is a separate light rail system serving Lusail, and the 365-day MetroPass is reported to cover both networks. Check current connection points between the metro and the tram on Qatar Rail's own site if your journey crosses both.
If you are choosing where to live
Metro access is a real factor in choosing a neighborhood in Qatar. See our guide to Qatar's best neighborhoods for how different areas compare, and our article on the metro's ongoing expansion if you are weighing an area that is not yet metro-connected.
What we could not verify
- Whether the fares above are still current, since the Qatar Rail fares policy document we found is dated May 2023.
- Full current opening hours for every station.
- Whether Metrolink routes reach every neighborhood, since coverage varies by station.
