Electrical Services in Qatar: How Licensing and Verification Work
How Kahramaa licenses electricians and electrical contractors in Qatar, how to verify a technician's license with a QR code, and what to check before hiring one.

Electrical work in Qatar runs through a licensing system rather than an open market of unverified providers, which gives you a genuine way to check who you are hiring. This guide explains how that works. We read reporting on Kahramaa's licensing update, from October 2023, in September 2026, and did not find a public list of individual licensed electricians to publish here.
How the Kahramaa licensing system works
Kahramaa introduced an updated licensing process for electrical connections and water installations, reported in October 2023. Contractors must meet requirements on documentation and must follow Kahramaa's approved security, safety, electrical, and water installation regulations. Individual electricians and plumbers can also be licensed directly by Kahramaa, though these individual licenses are limited to maintenance work and do not cover new electrical connections or full installation work, which need a licensed contractor.
How to verify a technician
Kahramaa's license card carries a QR code, which you can scan to check that the person or company is currently approved and accredited. Kahramaa says property owners must exclusively engage contractors or technicians it has approved. Ask to see and scan this code before work begins.
What the Kahramaa technical rules require
Kahramaa's own "Regulations for the Installation of Electrical Wiring" set the technical standard for electrical design in Qatar, including earthing schemes and the use of earth leakage circuit breakers or residual current devices. You do not need to understand the technical detail yourself, but a licensed contractor will be expected to follow it.
What to check before hiring
- Ask for the technician's or contractor's Kahramaa license and scan the QR code.
- For a new electrical connection or a full installation, confirm you are dealing with a licensed contractor, not only an individually licensed technician, since individual licenses only cover maintenance.
- Get a written quote before work starts, and a receipt afterward.
- If you are unsure, Kahramaa reported running a campaign in April 2025 against unlicensed electrical work, which suggests unlicensed work is a real, ongoing risk worth avoiding.
If something goes wrong
See our guides to a store or provider refusing a refund and warranty complaints in Qatar for the consumer protection route through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
What we could not verify
- A public directory of individually licensed electricians or approved contractor companies.
- Current licensing fees.
- Typical service call-out prices.
