International School Enrollment Demand Remains High

Top Doha schools carry waitlists of six months or more, and the entry points that move fastest are narrower than most families expect.

International School Enrollment Demand Remains High

General reporting from relocation and school-admissions advisors describes strong demand for international school places in Doha, with some sought-after schools, including ACS Doha and American School of Doha, reported to keep waitlists of six months or longer for popular year groups. We could not confirm waitlist lengths on the schools' own websites, and they change from year to year, so ask each school directly. Advisors describe demand as uneven across grade levels: entry points like Foundation and Reception, Year 7, and Year 12 are said to see the most movement, while mid-primary and mid-secondary places stay tight because families rarely leave once a child is settled.

British, American, and International Baccalaureate curricula remain the most sought-after programs, and schools offering them, including Doha College and Park House English School, are frequently mentioned by relocating families as first choices.

For a September start, advisors commonly suggest beginning the process 9 to 12 months ahead, and application windows are often described as opening between November and January for the following academic year. Each school sets its own dates, so confirm them on the school's site. Practically, families relocating on a company timeline often need to start the school search before their own visa process is finalized. For how licensing works and how to shortlist, see our guide to international schools in Qatar.

Advisors consistently recommend applying to at least three schools rather than pinning relocation plans on a single waitlist, since a place at a popular school is not guaranteed even with early registration. If school proximity is a factor in your housing search, our guide to Qatar's best neighborhoods covers which areas sit closest to the most in-demand schools.

Who regulates schools and fees

Private and international schools in Qatar are licensed and supervised by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and the Ministry approves tuition fees, according to local guides we read. Each school sets its own application process, assessments, and priority rules, so two schools can behave differently for the same child.

Two calendars to watch

Schools publish their own application windows, which advisors describe as opening from November to January for the following September. Separately, one local guide describes a Ministry registration period running from March to mid-October, with later applications possibly needing Ministry approval. We could not confirm the Ministry window on an official page, so check both the school's calendar and the Ministry's current guidance.

Documents to prepare early

Each school publishes its own list, but start early on the slow items.

  • Passport copies and, once available, residence permit or Qatar ID details.
  • Previous school reports and a transfer or leaving certificate.
  • For international schools in Grades 2 to 13, a local guide says an officially approved academic certificate for the last completed grade is required, and a mid-year entry also needs an approved certificate covering the first semester.
  • Medical and immunization records, and photos, as the school requests.

Step by step

  • Shortlist at least three schools by curriculum, location, fees, and available year groups.
  • Apply directly to each school and pay any registration fee they require.
  • Attend the interview or assessment where the school requires one.
  • If offered a place, submit final documents and pay the approved fees to secure it.

Common problems

  • **The visa is not ready.** Apply with the information you have and ask each school what it will accept in the meantime.
  • **Only one school applied to.** A place at a popular school is not guaranteed, so apply to at least three.
  • **Mid-year move.** Mid-year places depend on a vacancy and on attested first-semester results, so begin the certificate process before you arrive.
  • **Fees surprise.** Ask about registration, bus, uniform, and activity costs, not only tuition. Our cost of living guide shows how schooling fits into a family budget.

What we could not verify

  • Current waitlist lengths at any named school.
  • The Ministry registration window and any late-application approval process.
  • Which attestation steps apply to each country's school certificates.
