Pest Control in Qatar: The Free Government Service and Private Options
Quick answer
The Ministry of Municipality offers a pest control service for insects and rodents that Hukoomi lists as free for the homes of citizens and residents, with eligibility limited to citizens and non-single residents. Request it through the Oun app, the Tawtheeq online login, or by calling 184. It takes 2 to 3 days. If it does not fit your situation, vet a private company using the checks below.

Pest control in Qatar's climate is a common need, particularly for issues like cockroaches, rodents, and seasonal insects. Many residents pay a private company without knowing a government service exists. This guide starts with that official service, which we read on Hukoomi in September 2026, then covers private options and how to check them.

The free government service

Hukoomi's page for the Ministry of Municipality's Insect and Rodent Control service says citizens, residents, and government, semi-government, and commercial entities (except food shops) can request control of insects and rodents found inside houses or other facilities. The page states the service is free of charge for the houses of citizens and residents.

How to request it

1. Open the Pest Control Request service page and click Apply for the Service.

2. Log in with your Tawtheeq credentials, which is the National Authentication System.

3. Fill out the details online and attach your QID card number. Government entities attach a letter.

4. Pay any applicable fee. For a home, none applies.

Hukoomi also states the service can be requested through the Oun mobile app or by calling the Unified Call Center on 184, and that it takes 2 to 3 days to complete.

Who is eligible, and the catch

Hukoomi states the service is available only to citizens and non-single residents. If you are a single resident, for example a bachelor sharing accommodation, the page suggests you are not covered, so plan on a private provider. We could not confirm from the page how a shared villa or labour accommodation is treated, so ask the Unified Call Center on 184 before you assume either way.

Do not spray too often

Hukoomi's page says it is not advisable to spray pesticides except after 30 days of the last submitted request. In practice this means a second request soon after the first is unlikely to help, and a persistent problem may need a different approach, such as finding the source of the infestation, rather than repeat spraying.

Government service or private company?

This is our own analysis, not stated by the ministry. The government service is the obvious first step if you are eligible and the problem is not urgent, since it costs nothing and is done in 2 to 3 days. A private company makes sense if you are not eligible, if you need a specific treatment, a written follow-up plan, or a faster visit, or if your property is a food business, which the government service excludes. We could not confirm from the official page whether it covers every pest, such as termites or bed bugs, so ask before relying on it for those.

Rentokil Boecker

Rentokil Boecker is part of the Rentokil group, a large, internationally known pest control and hygiene company, and it is reported to serve the MENAT region including Qatar. Its scale and public profile make it easier to verify than a single-location local company.

Local pest control providers

Several companies advertise pest control services specifically in Qatar, and some describe themselves as government-certified or municipality-approved. We could not independently verify these specific claims or the companies' registration status this session, so we do not name them here. If a provider claims municipality approval, ask to see the current documentation.

What to check before hiring

  • Ask for the company's Qatar commercial registration.
  • Ask what treatment method will be used, and whether it is safe for children or pets in the home, since methods vary.
  • Ask whether a follow-up visit is included if the problem is not resolved after the first treatment.
  • Get a written quote before the visit.
  • Ask for a written record of what was applied, so you can tell the next provider, and so you know when the 30-day gap the ministry advises has passed.

The same verification steps apply as for other home services. See our guide to cleaning services in Qatar.

If you rent, who pays?

We did not find an official statement of whether the landlord or the tenant is responsible for pest control, and it usually depends on your lease. Check your contract first, and if a landlord will not act on a serious infestation, see our guides to a landlord not fixing repairs and renting an apartment in Qatar.

Common mistakes

  • Paying a private company for a home problem without first checking the free government service you may qualify for.
  • Requesting repeat treatments within 30 days, when the ministry advises against spraying that often.
  • Hiring on a price alone, without a written quote or a follow-up visit included.
  • Assuming a company's claim of municipality approval is true without seeing current documents.

What we could not verify

  • Specific local pest control companies as registered, verifiable businesses.
  • Whether Qatar has a formal municipality licensing scheme for private pest control companies, and its exact requirements.
  • Whether the government service covers every pest type, including termites and bed bugs.
  • How shared villas, labour accommodation, and bachelor housing are treated under the non-single resident rule.
  • Current prices for any private provider.
