How to Buy a SIM Card in Qatar: Visitor and Resident Options
Ooredoo and Vodafone both sell SIMs and eSIMs in Qatar. What the visitor packs cost, where to buy at Hamad airport, what a tourist eSIM needs, and what residents should expect.

People searching for how to buy a SIM card in Qatar are usually either landing at Hamad International Airport or about to move. This guide uses the operators' own pages, read in October 2026. Prices and packs change, so treat the numbers as a snapshot and check the operator page before you pay.
Ooredoo visitor SIM packs
Ooredoo's visitor page lists three packs.
| Pack | Price | Data | Local minutes | International minutes | Validity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Visitor SIM Go | QR 75 | 6 GB | 25 | none listed | 7 days |
| Visitor SIM Plus | QR 100 | 10 GB | 100 | 25 (120 countries) | 14 days |
| Visitor SIM Pro | QR 150 | 25 GB | 400 | 75 (120 countries) | 30 days |
Ooredoo says the data is for local use only and does not work while roaming, and that the line itself stays valid for one month and can be extended by recharging.
Where to buy at Hamad International Airport
Ooredoo's page names three places in the airport: the Qatar Duty Free store in the baggage collection area, Ooredoo kiosks at exits 2, 3 and 4 in the Arrivals Hall, and the Day2Day store in the Arrivals Hall. It also says you can buy an eSIM online and get it instantly, or collect a physical SIM on arrival.
Travel sites say airport prices can be higher than city shops. We did not compare prices ourselves, so ask the price before you pay and compare with the list above.
Vodafone for visitors and new customers
Vodafone Qatar's eSIM page says an eSIM is free on all plans and a physical SIM costs QR 15. For tourists it says to visit its online shop, choose a prepaid connection and verify your ID with your passport. It lists eSIM support on Android and iOS phones, tablets and some smartwatches, and says new activations normally use a QR code, with Wi-Fi recommended for the download.
Vodafone's prepaid tariff documents describe an Ahlan pack for customers without a Qatar ID who use a passport. The versions we saw listed a 7-day pack with 5 GB and 25 local minutes, and a 14-day pack with 10 GB and 100 local minutes, priced at QR 50 and QR 65 in one tariff notice. We did not see a current price page, so check the Vodafone visitor page for today's packs.
Before you buy an eSIM
- Check that your phone supports eSIM and is not locked to your home network. Both operators' pages assume an eSIM-ready phone.
- Have your passport ready. Vodafone says tourists verify with a passport.
- Download the eSIM on Wi-Fi, as Vodafone recommends, before you rely on mobile data.
- Remember you need a working number for one-time passcodes. Our first week in Qatar checklist explains why a local number matters for banking and Metrash.
If you are a resident
Residents usually take a prepaid or postpaid plan tied to a Qatar ID, not a visitor pack. Vodafone says it uses face recognition in its app to check passport details and offers an eSIM download or a SIM delivered to your door. We did not find a full list of documents for residents on either operator's page, so ask the shop or the app which ID they need. For problems after you buy, see Qatar SIM not working and our guide to internet providers in Qatar.
Mistakes to avoid
- Buying a pack that is for visitors when you will stay longer, because the validity is only 7 to 30 days on Ooredoo's packs.
- Expecting visitor data to work abroad. Ooredoo says it is for local use only.
- Buying from a street seller with no receipt. Use an operator shop, kiosk or website.
What we could not verify
- Whether the packs and prices above are still current, because operators change them often. The Ooredoo page was read in October 2026.
- The current Vodafone visitor pack prices, which we only saw in older tariff documents and a search summary.
- The exact documents each operator asks from residents.
- Whether Ooredoo's website purchase needs more than personal details, which its page does not say.
- Airport price differences, which we did not check in person.
