Dental Clinics in Qatar: Public and Private Options
How PHCC's public dental clinics work in Qatar, what they cover, and what to check before choosing a private dental clinic instead.

Dental care in Qatar runs through both the public PHCC network and a wide range of private clinics. This guide covers the public system in detail, since it is well documented by an official source, and gives general guidance on choosing a private clinic, since we could not independently verify specific private clinic brands this session.
PHCC dental services
PHCC is reported to provide dental care across 154 clinics in 31 health centers, offering general and specialized dentistry for all age groups. Services under its general dental offering include clinical and radiographic examination, diagnosis, simple extractions, restorations, gum disease treatment, and root canal treatment for front teeth, with emergency treatment for back teeth. PHCC also runs specialized clinics, including oral surgery, root canal treatment, pediatric dentistry, and gum disease clinics. Complicated cases are referred to secondary or tertiary care, such as Hamad General Hospital. PHCC offers both walk-in access for urgent dental problems and appointments booked in advance.
Private dental clinics
A wide range of private dental clinics also operate in Qatar, generally with shorter waits and more scheduling flexibility than the public system, at a higher cost unless covered by insurance. We could not independently verify specific private dental clinic brands as registered businesses this session, so we do not name any here.
Check that a clinic and dentist are licensed
The Ministry of Public Health runs two free online directories on Hukoomi that help you verify a private clinic before you book.
- Find Health Facility in Qatar: Hukoomi describes this as a comprehensive list of licensed health facilities. Choose Institution Type and Name, or Area and Location, select a facility type or area, and click Search. If you select nothing, it shows every registered facility.
- Find Physician: Hukoomi describes this as an updated list of licensed physicians, searchable by name, license number, place of work, and scope of practice, and it lists all licensed doctors in each facility and each specialty. The page says you select the practitioner type first. Its description refers to physicians, and we could not confirm from the page that dentists appear as a selectable practitioner type, so if you cannot find your dentist there, ask the clinic for the dentist's license number and check with the Ministry.
Both services are free. Use them instead of relying on a clinic's own advertising.
What to check before choosing a private clinic
- Confirm the clinic is on the Ministry's licensed facility list, and ask the dentist for their license number.
- Check whether your insurance covers dental care, and whether the clinic bills your insurer directly.
- Ask for a written treatment plan and cost estimate before major work, such as a crown or root canal.
Questions to ask before major treatment
These are general practical suggestions, not official advice.
- What exactly is being done, and are there simpler alternatives?
- What is the total cost, and what is included, such as X-rays, follow-up visits, and any replacement if it fails?
- Who performs the treatment, and are they a specialist for this procedure?
- What happens if you need further work, and is there a guarantee period?
- Is a second opinion available before you commit to expensive work?
Public or private?
This is our own view. PHCC is a sensible starting point for routine care and urgent problems if you have a valid health card. A private clinic may suit you if you want a specific specialist, evening or weekend appointments, cosmetic work, or shorter waits, at higher cost unless insurance covers it. If your health card has lapsed, see our guide to renewing an expired health card.

Common mistakes
- Booking a private clinic without checking it is on the Ministry's licensed facility list.
- Agreeing to major work without a written treatment plan and cost estimate.
- Assuming your insurance covers dental care without checking the policy.
- Waiting on an urgent dental problem when PHCC is reported to offer walk-in access.
What we could not verify
- Specific private dental clinics as registered, verifiable businesses.
- Current PHCC dental appointment wait times.
- Typical costs for private dental treatment.
- The current number of PHCC dental clinics. The figure of 154 clinics comes from a March 2023 report, so it may have changed.
- Whether dentists appear as a selectable practitioner type in the Find Physician directory.
