QDC Permit in Qatar: Who Can Apply and How It Works
Quick answer
Reports say that to hold a Qatar Distribution Company (QDC) permit you must be a non-Muslim, non-GCC resident aged 21 or over with a valid Qatar ID and a minimum basic salary, reported as QR 3,000 or QR 2,500 depending on the source. Fees are reported as QR 150 for one year up to QR 400 for four years, and you apply at qdc.com.qa and book an appointment. Alcohol is sold only to permit holders.

Searches such as QDC permit and how to get an alcohol license in Qatar come mostly from new arrivals who are not sure whether they qualify. QDC's own FAQ file (version 2.1, December 2024) could not be read by our tools, so this guide uses a guide site and news summaries and says where they disagree. Nothing here is advice on what is lawful for you personally.

Who is reported to be eligible

  • A non-GCC citizen with a valid Qatar residence permit.
  • Age 21 or over.
  • A minimum basic salary, excluding allowances. Doha Guides says QR 3,000 a month, and a news summary says QR 2,500. Use the figure on the QDC site.
  • A Qatar ID valid for at least two more months, per Doha Guides.
  • Non-Muslim. A news summary says access is limited to non-Muslim residents.

A news summary also says some visitors on multi-entry visas who live in private accommodation or hotel apartments for at least three months can apply under special circumstances. We could not confirm this.

What you need to apply

Doha Guides lists:

  • A no-objection or salary letter from your employer in English, dated within the last three months, signed and stamped, giving your full name and position, your basic salary, your accommodation details and your marital status.
  • Your valid Qatar ID.
  • The completed QDC application form.
  • A credit or debit card, because cash is not accepted for the fee.

Fees

ValidityReported fee

2 yearsQR 250
3 yearsQR 350
4 yearsQR 400

Doha Guides says the permit cannot run past your Qatar ID validity, and that the fee is prorated if your ID expires within 12 months.

How to apply

The steps in the Doha Guides summary are to go to qdc.com.qa, choose New Permit, fill in your details, enter the OTP, book an appointment, complete the form, visit the QDC office with your papers and pay the fee. Renewal is reported to be possible online if nothing has changed, while a change of job or salary needs an in-person visit.

What the permit allows

Doha Guides says there is a fixed monthly allowance for alcohol based on salary, and that pork products are not restricted. A news summary says purchases need an appointment and carry a 100 percent tax. We could not find the allowance table.

At the airport

Travel sources say alcohol cannot be brought into Qatar by travellers, and that Qatar Duty Free alcohol is sold only to people whose final destination is not Doha. We read this on secondary sites, not on a Hamad Airport or customs page.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Using an old NOC letter. Doha Guides says it must be dated within three months.
  • Buying a permit through an agent or a stranger. Use the QDC website.
  • Forgetting that the permit ends with your Qatar ID. See Qatar ID: everything you need to know and what to do when your ID expires.

What we could not verify

  • QDC's own FAQ and fee page, which we could not read, so every figure above is from a secondary source.
  • The minimum salary, where QR 3,000 and QR 2,500 were both reported.
  • The monthly allowance and the tax rate as applied today.
  • The rules for visitors and for residents with a cancelled visa.
  • Any law or penalty about alcohol outside licensed outlets. We did not research that here.
