Rubaiya Qatar 2026: The New Art Quadrennial, Dates, Venues and What to See
Rubaiya Qatar is a new contemporary art quadrennial running from 21 November 2026 to 30 April 2027, with more than 120 artists from over 45 countries. Venues, the headline show Unruly Waters, and how to plan a visit.

Rubaiya Qatar is a new event on Doha's cultural calendar, and one of the main reasons the city is being talked about this winter. Because it is new, there is little practical information in one place. This guide pulls together what Qatar Museums announced and what independent reports say. We read QNA's report (13 October 2026), Marhaba's listing, and search summaries of The Peninsula's 14 October 2026 report and arts press. The official programme and any ticketing details should be confirmed on Qatar Museums' channels. It is general information.
What is Rubaiya Qatar?
Rubaiya Qatar is a visual arts quadrennial, meaning a large exhibition held every four years. The inaugural edition runs from 21 November 2026 to 30 April 2027. Reports describe a nationwide programme of exhibitions and public art installations that brings together more than 120 artists from over 45 countries. The headline exhibition is called Unruly Waters and is curated by Tom Eccles, Ruba Katrib, Shabbir Hussain Mustafa and Mark Rappolt.
Where is it?
| Venue | Role (reported) |
|---|---|
| ALRIWAQ Arts and Architecture | The principal venue and institutional base, recently renovated by OMA, beside the Museum of Islamic Art |
| Museum of Islamic Art | Exhibition presentations |
| Katara QM Gallery | Exhibition presentations |
| Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art | Exhibition presentations |
| MIA Park and public spaces | Public art, including a pre-launch installation by Rirkrit Tiravanija at MIA Park |
Several venues sit close together on or near the Corniche, so a visit can be built around a walk. See Doha and museums in Qatar for opening days and who enters free.
Is it free?
A Marhaba listing says entry is free, with times varying by venue. We found no official ticketing details, so confirm on Qatar Museums' channels before you plan. Remember that the museums that host parts of the quadrennial have their own entry rules, and that Mathaf is reported free to everyone while the National Museum, the Museum of Islamic Art and 3-2-1 are free for residents with a QID.
How to plan a visit
1. Start with ALRIWAQ and the Museum of Islamic Art, which are next to each other.
2. Add MIA Park and the Corniche for outdoor art and a walk. See free places to visit in Qatar.
3. Plan Mathaf in Education City and Katara on another day.
4. The season is long, so go in the cooler months and on weekday mornings or Thursday evenings, when museum hours run later.
5. Dress modestly and check photo rules. See dress code in Qatar and photographing people in Qatar.
Other art news this winter
Doha was named the GCC Tourism Capital for 2026, according to a travel report, and Art Basel held its Middle East debut in Doha in February 2026. Other museums are planned but not yet open. We found a reported late 2026 opening for a Qatar Auto Museum and a planned Dadu Children's Museum, but no confirmed opening dates in the sources we read, so we do not give dates.
What we could not verify
- Official ticketing, hours and the full programme.
- Opening dates of other planned museums.
- Whether any exhibition is closed on particular days.
