How to Check a Travel Ban in Qatar: Metrash2 and the MOI Portal
Three ways to check for a travel ban before you fly out of Qatar, how a ban is lifted through the court e-services portal, and what a clean result does not prove.

A travel ban is usually a surprise that appears at the airport. A court case, an unpaid debt or an unpaid fine can put a block on your ID, and you only find out at passport control. Checking a few days before you travel is free and takes about a minute.
This guide uses a DohaGuides article (reviewed March 2025), a search summary of the Supreme Judiciary Council announcement reported by Qatar Tribune and Gulf Times, and other guides. We could not open the Qatar Tribune page. Menu paths in secondary guides disagree, which we flag below. It is general information, not legal advice.
How to check a travel ban on Metrash2
DohaGuides describes this route:
1. Open Metrash2 and log in with your Qatar ID number and password.
2. Tap the person icon at the top right.
3. Select "Travel Ban."
4. Read the result. If there is no record, the app shows "No data found for this search." If there is a ban, it shows the details.
How to check on the MOI e-services portal
This route needs a smart card. DohaGuides lists these steps: log in with your smart card credentials, choose "Personal" (or the company you represent), open "General Services," then "Travel Ban Inquiry," and review the "List of Travel Ban Circulars." It shows circulars on your ID and the bodies that issued them. Another source gives a slightly different path, so look for "Travel Ban Inquiry" if the menu is different.
Phone helplines
The Supreme Judiciary Council published 5578 8372, 4459 7769 and 4459 7777 for inquiries. DohaGuides readers reported that one number was wrong, which is unverified, so try the next one before giving up.
Why a travel ban happens
DohaGuides lists financial matters and unpaid debts, absconding reports, child custody disputes, criminal cases and investigations. Our own guides cover the common triggers: unpaid traffic fines, a bounced cheque, and an absconding report, which explains how a legal restriction can stop travel even without an exit permit.
How a travel ban is lifted
DohaGuides describes applying through the Al Mahakem e-services portal (eservices.sjc.gov.qa), personally or through a lawyer. You log in with an activation code sent to your registered phone, choose "Motion Trials Services," then "Request Cancellation of Travel Ban," fill in your details and case number, attach documents, sign, submit and pay any fee. The guide says a ban can be lifted only if the charges have been settled or revoked, so an active case may make the request pointless. If you do not read Arabic or do not know why you were banned, talk to a lawyer.
What a clean result does not prove
One summary warned that a portal may not show every ban, for example some private-creditor bans before a court enforces them. A clear result means no circular was found, not a guarantee. If your travel matters a lot, such as a medical trip or a funeral, check twice and keep proof of any payment you made.
What we could not verify
- Official menu wording in the current Metrash2 and MOI versions.
- Whether passport number lookups work. Some guides claim it, and we could not confirm it.
- Fees and timelines for lifting a ban.
Frequently asked questions
Can I check a travel ban with my passport number?
Some guides say yes, but we could not confirm it from an official source. The routes we could trace use your Qatar ID in Metrash2 or a smart card on the MOI portal.
How do I know if I have a travel ban in Qatar?
Open Metrash2 and use the Travel Ban option, or use Travel Ban Inquiry on the MOI e-services portal. A result of "No data found" means no record was returned.
Can a travel ban be removed?
DohaGuides says you can apply to cancel it through the Al Mahakem e-services portal, but only if the underlying charges have been settled or revoked.
