Qatar Overstay Fine Calculator: Visit Visa and Residence Permit
A calculator for the reported overstay fines in Qatar: QAR 200 a day on a visit visa, and QAR 10 a day after the 14 day grace period once a residence permit is cancelled or expires.

Overstay fines are easy to get wrong because two different rules are mixed together online. A visitor has no grace period and pays from the day after the stay ends. A resident whose permit ended has a short grace period first. This page separates them, lets you enter your own dates and explains where the numbers come from. It is general information, not legal advice, and the Ministry of Interior sets the real amount.
Calculate your overstay fine
Choose which situation applies, enter the date the stay or permit ended, and the date you left or plan to leave.
Where the figures come from
Gulf Times reported on 16 June 2026 what an official of the Ministry of Interior's Airport Passports Department said at a webinar on safe travel: residents must leave within 14 days of their residence permit being cancelled, down from 30 days, and the fine for staying longer is QAR 10 a day. The same report gives the visit visa overstay fine as QAR 200 a day, and says the permitted stay is shown on the sticker with the entry stamp in the passport. KPMG's immigration alert reports the same 14 day change. Fragomen noted that it was unclear whether the change is temporary or permanent.
Two rules, two examples
- **Visit visa.** Your stay ends on 1 October. You leave on 11 October. That is 10 days over, and 10 x QAR 200 is QAR 2,000.
- **Residence permit.** Your permit is cancelled on 1 October. You have until 15 October. You leave on 25 October. That is 10 days over the grace period, and 10 x QAR 10 is QAR 100.
The tool counts each day after the free period as one day of overstay, up to the day you leave. We do not know how the ministry treats a part day or a departure late on the last day, so leave with a margin.
Is there a cap?
We found no published maximum. A search summary of earlier guides mentioned a cap of QAR 12,000 on visit visa overstay, but we could not confirm it from the Gulf Times report or any official page, so the calculator does not apply one.
What the grace period is for
The 14 days are for people whose permit was cancelled or expired and who are leaving. They are not a right to keep working, and a local transfer after cancellation is reported not to be allowed. Our guide to what happens when a residence permit expires covers the consequences, and cancelling a family member's residence permit shows why a sponsor should plan flights first.
Check before you fly
Gulf Times says anyone with traffic violations, overstay fines or other dues should settle them through Metrash before travelling, and anyone with a travel ban must follow up with the relevant department to have it lifted. See how to check a travel ban in Qatar, checking and paying traffic fines and whether you still need an exit permit.
If you are on a visit visa and need more time
A visit visa can be extended through Metrash or the Ministry of Interior before it ends. See how to extend a visit visa in Qatar and visa-free entry and Hayya.
What we could not verify
- The Ministry of Interior's own notice of the 14 day rule and the visit visa fine. The figures come from Gulf Times and KPMG.
- Whether the rule is permanent, and whether any cap, blacklist or other penalty applies.
- How a part day is counted.
