Qatar Visa-Free Entry, Visa on Arrival and Hayya: Which Applies to You
Citizens of 102 or more countries can enter Qatar without a visa, and others use a Hayya e-visa. What visitqatar.com says about the options, the QR 100 fee, passport rules and extension.

The question behind most searches for Qatar visa on arrival is simple: do I need a visa, and what do I do if I do? This guide follows the Visit Qatar visa page and the Ministry of Interior's visa portal, with Qatar Living as a labelled secondary source. Rules change without notice, as the Ministry portal itself says.
The three ways in
| Route | Who it is for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Visa-free entry or visa on arrival | Citizens of 102 or more nationalities | The stay is up to 30 days for most, up to 90 days for a smaller group, per Qatar Living |
| GCC entry | Citizens of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the UAE | Passport or GCC ID, no visa |
| Hayya e-visa | Everyone else | Apply online before travel |
The Visit Qatar page also lists a Hayya A2 visa for GCC residents, an A3 option as an alternative tourist visa, a Qatar-Oman joint tourist visa for 30 days that can be extended for another 30 days for a fee, and a transit visa for Qatar Airways passengers with a layover of six hours or more.
Hayya e-visa
Hayya is Qatar's official platform for e-visa applications. Visit Qatar lists the A1 tourist entry visa at a fee of QR 100. The Hayya site points applicants to its how-to guides, and we could not read the full fee and validity table on it. Apply only on the official Hayya platform or the Ministry of Interior's visa portal, not through a stranger offering to speed things up.
Passport and trip papers
The sources do not fully agree here.
- Passport validity: Visit Qatar says at least three months from the arrival date, while Qatar Living says six months. Use six months to be safe, because airlines apply their own checks.
- Return or onward ticket: Qatar Living says to have one ready, and Visit Qatar says a return ticket is required for specific visa categories.
- Hotel booking: Visit Qatar says it is mandatory for certain nationalities and to book through the Discover Qatar website. Qatar Living says to carry proof of accommodation.
- Health insurance: Visit Qatar says all travellers to the State of Qatar are to have a valid health insurance policy.
The fee on arrival
Visit Qatar's page lists visa on arrival at the airport with a QR 100 fee next to it. Qatar Living says the visa is typically free for most visa-free nationalities and some may pay modest charges. We could not settle which is right for your passport, so check on the Visit Qatar page for your nationality.
Staying longer
Qatar Living says a permit can be extended once through Metrash2 or the Ministry of Interior portal, for a fee, with daily fines for overstaying. A visitor staying beyond a month usually needs a medical test first. See our step by step guide to Qatar visit visa extension. Mistakes to avoid
- Assuming that the visa-free list is the same for every airline route. Check your own passport.
- Travelling with a passport that has under six months left.
- Booking a non-refundable flight before you confirm the entry route.
- Paying a third party for a Hayya visa when the official site is free to use apart from the government fee.
What we could not verify
- The full list of 102 nationalities and which of them get 30 or 90 days. We did not copy a list because lists change.
- The fee for visa on arrival, where our two sources differ.
- The passport validity rule, where three months and six months were both reported.
- The Hayya fee and validity tables, because the Hayya site gave no detail.
- Whether the hotel booking rule applies to your nationality.
