Qatar Visit Visa Extension: Medical Test, Fee and Steps
Quick answer
Reports say a visit visa in Qatar can be extended through the Metrash2 app or the Ministry of Interior portal, or at a Ministry service centre. A visitor staying beyond a month needs a medical test first, reported at QR 100 per adult. Family visit visas are reported at up to 180 days in total. Fees are reported at QR 100 to QR 200 per 30 days depending on the source, so check the fee on Metrash before you pay.

Many people searching for a Qatar visit visa extension have a relative visiting from abroad and a visa that is about to end. We could not read the Ministry of Interior's own extension page, because its service pages returned errors or were blocked to our tools. This guide therefore uses a guide site updated in November 2025, Qatar Living, and search summaries of Ministry pages, and it marks which is which. It is not legal advice.

What can be extended

Qatar Living says an entry permit can be extended once through Metrash2 or the Ministry of Interior portal, for a fee, and that overstaying brings daily fines. The Ministry's e-services summary says visas can be extended online if the visa type is extendable, so a visa marked not extendable cannot. Our types of Qatar visas guide lists the main categories.

The medical test for stays beyond a month

A search summary of Ministry pages says that if a visitor wants to stay more than a month, the medical check must be completed before the end of the allowed period and the extension applied for. Doha Guides, updated on 11 November 2025, describes the test like this:

  • Where: the Medical Commission office in Abu Hamour, Industrial Area, near a Woqod petrol station, Sunday to Thursday, 7 am to 7 pm, closed Friday and Saturday. Tokens can stop early on busy days.
  • Fee: QR 100 per person, by debit or credit card only.
  • Bring: the original passport, a clear copy of the visit visa with a phone number written on it, and a card.
  • Tests: blood tests for HIV and hepatitis B and C, and a chest X-ray for tuberculosis. Children do not take the test.
  • Results: usually within 24 hours and up to three working days, by SMS if Metrash is active, otherwise checked on the Ministry of Public Health website with the visa or medical number.

The same guide says the sponsor gets a reminder SMS after the visitor arrives, that entry details can take up to three days to show in the system, and that the test should be done within about three weeks of arrival.

How to apply for the extension

Once the medical result is cleared, the sponsor applies through the Metrash2 app or the Ministry of Interior e-services, or goes to a service centre. See Metrash not working if the app gives trouble. Keep the visitor's passport, the visa and the medical receipt at hand.

The fee figures do not agree between sources. The amount may depend on the visa type, so read the fee shown on Metrash2 before you confirm.

Family visit visas

For parents, children and spouses, the family visit route has its own rules, including the sponsor's salary and housing. Our family visit visa guide covers the sponsor's side. Doha Guides adds that a second renewal does not need another medical test.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Waiting until the last week. The medical test, the results and the system update can take several days.
  • Paying cash at the medical office. The guide says card only.
  • Using an agent who says the visa can be extended past the limit. A reported six-month visit visa limit applies to the family route, and beyond that you would need a different visa.

What we could not verify

  • The Ministry of Interior's own extension page and fee table, which we could not read.
  • Which fee is right: QR 100 or QR 200, and per 30 days or per visa.
  • The overstay fine of QR 200 a day up to QR 12,000, which comes from a search summary, not from the page itself.
  • Whether the extension rules differ for Hayya visas and for different nationalities.
  • The current opening hours and location of the medical office, which can change.
