Lost or Damaged Qatar Driving License: How to Replace It
The official Ministry of Interior process and fees to reissue a lost or damaged Qatar driving license, and how this differs from a standard renewal.

Losing your driving license in Qatar is a straightforward fix if you know which service to use, and it is a different service from renewing an unexpired one. This guide follows Hukoomi's own Ministry of Interior page for the reissue service directly. We read it in September 2026.
Reissue versus renewal
It is worth being precise about this distinction, since Hukoomi lists them as separate services. Reissue applies when your license is lost or damaged but not necessarily near expiry. Renewal applies when your license is expiring or has expired but you still physically have it. If yours has expired rather than being lost, see our guide to getting a driving license in Qatar for the renewal and exchange process instead of the reissue steps below.
Who can apply
Hukoomi's page states individuals or companies may submit requests to the Ministry of Interior to replace a lost or damaged driving license, including a company applying on behalf of its employees.
How to apply online
Hukoomi's own steps are:
1. Log in with your smartcard to the MOI e-services portal.
2. Click on Traffic Services, then Driving License, followed by Issue Driving License for Damaged/Lost.
3. Select whether you are replacing your own lost license or an employee's.
4. View your driving license information.
5. Specify your new driving license delivery option.
6. Pay the due fees and print your receipt.
Fees
| Applicant | Validity | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Qatari nationals | 10 years | QR500, plus QR20 delivery if applicable |
| Residents | 5 years | QR250, plus QR20 delivery if applicable |
Applying through Metrash
Hukoomi's page states you can also reissue a lost or damaged driving license through the Metrash mobile app, as an alternative to the MOI e-services portal.
What the page does not mention
Hukoomi's page does not state that filing a police report is a requirement before reissuing a lost license, and does not mention a temporary permit being issued while you wait for the replacement. We did not find either of these addressed on the official page, so do not assume either applies to your situation without checking directly with MOI. If you separately want to report the loss itself, see our guide to filing a police report in Qatar.
What to have ready
- Your smartcard, or the Metrash app, logged in and ready.
- A decision on delivery, since the process asks you to specify how you want the new license delivered.
- Payment ready for the applicable fee based on your nationality status.
Common mistakes
- Using the renewal process instead of the reissue process, or vice versa, when your license is lost rather than simply expired, or expired rather than lost.
- Assuming a police report is required first, when Hukoomi's own page does not state this as a requirement.
- Not budgeting for the QR20 delivery fee on top of the base reissue fee, if you choose a delivery option that applies it.
What we could not verify
- Whether a temporary permit is issued while a replacement is being processed.
- Typical processing or delivery time once the request and payment are submitted.
- Whether a police report is required in practice despite not being listed as a requirement on the official page.
