Car Dealerships in Qatar: How the Official Agent System Works

Qatar generally sells new cars through a single official agent per brand, not competing dealer networks. Here is how that works and who a few major agents are.

Car Dealerships in Qatar: How the Official Agent System Works
Quick answer
In Qatar, each car brand is generally sold through a single official agent, not multiple competing dealerships as in some other markets. Abdullah Abdulghani & Bros (AAB) is Toyota and Lexus's official agent. Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana is Nissan's authorized dealer. Alfardan Premier Motors is the official importer for Jaguar and Land Rover. Buy new cars through the brand's official agent to keep the manufacturer warranty valid.

Car buying in Qatar works differently from markets with many competing dealers for the same brand. Most brands operate through one official Qatari agent, which is also usually the main source for genuine parts and authorized servicing. This guide explains that system and names a few well-known official agents. We checked each brand's own site or a company announcement in September 2026.

This is not a complete list of every brand's Qatari agent. If you are looking for a specific brand, search for its official Qatar site directly, since the brand's own site will name its authorized local agent.

Why the official agent matters

Buying through the official agent generally keeps the manufacturer's warranty valid and ensures genuine parts for future service. A car imported informally, sometimes called a grey import, may not carry the same warranty support or may need service at a general garage rather than an authorized one. Confirm the source of any vehicle you are considering, new or used.

After you buy: registering the vehicle

Hukoomi's Register New Vehicle service, run by the Ministry of Interior, states that vehicle owners must register a newly purchased vehicle, and that registration is mandatory for both new and used vehicles. Do not assume the dealer completes this for you, so ask the agent in advance what it handles. The page describes these steps for the online route:

1. Log in with your smartcard to the Ministry of Interior e-services portal.

2. Choose Personal for a smartcard owner, or Company Name for an authorized person.

3. Click Traffic Services, then Vehicles, then New Vehicle Registration.

4. Fill in the application form, pay the fee, and submit.

Hukoomi lists a registration fee of QR100, plus an optional extra fee if you want a customized plate number. For the offline route, it says to bring the car with all its records to the Traffic Department, with an insurance document valid for one year and a copy of your ID. Residents who are not government employees should provide a signed letter from their sponsor or company, or a copy of the establishment ID for company sponsorship. The page adds that only the technical inspection needs in-person attendance.

Insurance comes before registration

Because the offline route asks for a one-year insurance document, arrange cover before you go to register. Our guide to car insurance in Qatar explains the main types and what to compare. Renewal later on is covered in our guide to vehicle registration renewal problems, and the technical check in our guide to a failed Fahes inspection.

Before you sign a purchase agreement

These are general practical checks, not official advice.

  • Ask for the total price in writing, including any delivery, registration help, plate, tint, or accessory charges.
  • Ask what the manufacturer warranty covers, for how long, and where servicing must be done to keep it valid.
  • Ask for a delivery date in writing if the car is ordered, and what happens if it is late.
  • Keep every document, including the invoice and the warranty booklet.

If the agent will not honor a warranty or an after-sales commitment, Article 12 of Qatar's Consumer Protection Law, Law No. 8 of 2008, which we read on Al Meezan for our guide to store refunds, requires supplier contracts to include repair, maintenance, and after-sales service. See our guide to warranty complaints in Qatar for the steps. If you are buying second-hand instead, see our guides to used car dealers and vehicle ownership transfer.

And your driving license

You need a valid license to drive the car home. See our guide to getting a driving license in Qatar if you have not yet arranged one.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming the dealer will register the vehicle, when the owner is responsible under Hukoomi's description of the service.
  • Going to register without a valid insurance document ready.
  • Not getting the warranty terms, delivery date, and total price in writing.
  • Buying a grey import without confirming warranty and parts support.

What we could not verify

  • A complete list of every brand's official Qatari agent.
  • Current new car prices, financing terms, or promotions.
  • Warranty terms for any specific brand, since these are set by the agent and the manufacturer.
  • Whether specific agents offer to handle registration on your behalf, and any fee they charge.
