Labour Disputes in Qatar 2026: Amicable Settlement First, Then the Committee
How a labour dispute moves through the Ministry of Labour and the Labour Dispute Resolution Committee after the 2026 amendments, with the reported seven day settlement window and what each step means for you.

If your employer owes you pay, or you disagree about dismissal, you file a complaint with the Ministry. The 2026 amendments tightened and formalized that path. This page explains the steps as law firms report them, and what to prepare. We could not read the law, the timelines come from one law firm summary, and Crowell & Moring gives none, so confirm them with the Ministry. It is general information, not legal advice. Our guide to filing a labor complaint has the practical filing steps.
The steps as reported
1. **Ministry settlement.** The dispute must go to the Ministry for amicable settlement first. Clyde & Co reports that it "can now only proceed" to the Committee after that step (Article 115). K&L Gates reports that the parties have seven days to try to settle.
2. **Referral.** If there is no settlement, K&L Gates reports that the Ministry refers the dispute to the Labour Dispute Resolution Committee within three working days. Clyde & Co says failed conciliations must be referred promptly.
3. **Committee.** The Committee can hold proceedings electronically if the identities of the parties and witnesses are verified, per Clyde & Co and Crowell.
4. **Enforcement.** K&L Gates says early settlements may be immediately enforceable. Qatar Living says Committee decisions have stronger enforceability and that wage complaints are prioritised, with many cases aimed to be resolved within weeks, and adds that there is no fixed statutory 60 day limit.
Time limits and why they matter
K&L Gates and Clyde & Co both report that limitation periods are suspended while a settlement request is pending. That protects a worker who files and waits. It does not remove the need to act promptly, and we found no source on the limitation periods themselves. Keep dates of your first complaint.
What to prepare
- Your contract and any addenda. See checking your employment contract online.
- Payslips and bank statements, and the dates pay was due. Our salary due date checker shows when a payment became late.
- Your own estimate of what you are owed. Use our final settlement calculator, overtime calculator and annual leave calculator.
- Messages with your employer and any written notice. See the notice period calculator.
Wages, transfers and repatriation
Crowell & Moring reports that workers affected by wage violations may transfer or terminate, with repatriation costs paid by the employer, and that repeat violators can be named by the Ministry. Clyde & Co reports the new Article 146 bis powers to suspend an employer's transactions. See the 2026 amendments overview.
If you are outside the Labour Law
Part-time and freelance workers are reported to be excluded from the law, so this route may not apply to them. See part-time and freelance work in Qatar.
What we could not verify
- The text of Article 115 and the exact timelines. K&L Gates gives seven days and three working days, and the other sources give none.
- How limitation periods are suspended, and how long they run.
- How the Committee treats claims that are not about wages.
