Tawtheeq in Qatar: What the National Authentication System Is and Where You Need It
What a Tawtheeq account is, why some Qatari e-services ask for it, the login options, where it is used, how people register, and the questions the official pages do not answer.

People search for "Tawtheeq self service" when a website asks for a Tawtheeq login and they have never heard of it. This is a plain guide to what it is, based on the Ministry's own 2019 announcement as reported by Gulf Times and the Ministry, and on reports of where it is used today. The official pages for registration and password reset were not reachable for us, so the registration steps below are secondary and flagged. It is general information.
What is Tawtheeq?
The Ministry of Transport and Communications launched the National Authentication System, known as Tawtheeq, on or around 17 March 2019. It manages the digital identities of individuals and businesses that use government websites and online applications to access e-services. The stated aims are to make it easier to verify who is using an e-service, to reduce the risk of digital identities being stolen or hacked, and to save users time. It was presented as part of the Qatar Digital Government 2020 Strategy.
How can you log in?
- A username and password with multi-factor authentication.
- A smart ID card.
- A digital signature service lets you sign government transactions, according to the announcement.
- One username and password is meant to work across all participating government e-services.
Who can register?
The announcement describes individuals and businesses and does not state eligibility rules. A third-party guide (Doha Guides, last reviewed February 2024) says Qatari citizens, residents, visitors and business representatives may register. Do not treat that as official.
Where do you need a Tawtheeq account?
| Service | What we found |
|---|---|
| Winter camping permit | Qatar Living and Marhaba (October 2026) say applicants register through the National Authentication System |
| Nar'aakom (PHCC) app | Older PHCC materials reported that app booking needs a Tawtheeq account, see PHCC dental appointments |
| Some government and credit bureau logins | Reported on login pages that offer a Reset Password option |
| Metrash | Uses your QID, activation codes and a PIN, see mobile number not registered |
For the camping rules and who can apply, see winter camping in Qatar. For Metrash and Hukoomi sign-in problems see Metrash not working and Hukoomi registration problems.
How do people register?
The secondary guide describes this order: open the National Authentication System self service page, choose Register, select the account type, enter your Qatar ID and follow the steps to set a password. First time users of some services are asked to confirm identity with the expiry date of their Qatari ID. We could not confirm each step on an official page, and the step by step detail was cut off in our sources, so check the registration page itself.
Password and login problems
A reset option appears on the login pages of services that use Tawtheeq. One such page lists a support contact, TAWTHEEQ at 109, which we could not confirm on an official page. Keep your QID and registered mobile number ready, make sure the number is registered under your own QID, and take a screenshot of any error.
Tips
- Register before you need it. Deadlines for popular services, such as camping permit registration, are short.
- Keep your QID valid. See an expired Qatar ID.
- Never share your Tawtheeq password, and beware of messages asking you to verify your account.
What we could not verify
- The official registration and password reset steps in 2026.
- The support number for Tawtheeq.
- The full list of services that require it.
- Eligibility rules for visitors.
