AI Jobs in Qatar in 2026: Roles, Skills, and How to Get Started
Quick answer
AI jobs in Qatar include machine learning engineers, AI engineers, data scientists, and Arabic language specialists, hired by banks, energy companies, telecoms, universities, and research institutes. Demand is backed by Qatar's National AI Strategy, the national AI company Qai, and new local AI cloud infrastructure. Listings usually ask for strong Python skills, a relevant degree, and projects you can show.

"AI jobs" covers a wide range, from research scientists to engineers who put models into production. This guide explains which of these roles show up in Qatar, what is driving the demand, and what employers ask for. It links to sources and dates every number. It also says where we could not find evidence, so you know what is solid and what is not.

Why AI hiring is growing in Qatar

Qatar's interest in AI is official policy. The Qatar Center for Artificial Intelligence released the National AI Strategy for Qatar in February 2019, and the government adopted it that October. It has six pillars: talent, data access, employment, wealth creation, an "AI + X" future, and thought leadership in AI ethics. The talent pillar calls for building an ecosystem to develop local talent and attract international researchers and entrepreneurs.

Newer moves add money and infrastructure. In December 2025, Qatar launched Qai, a national AI company under the Qatar Investment Authority. A July 2026 U.S. Commerce Department report says the authority signed a $20 billion partnership with Brookfield to form it. The same report notes that the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) developed Fanar, an Arabic AI language model, and that Qatar published ethical AI guidelines in 2025. An earlier September 2025 report says MCIT announced a National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and a GovAI program to promote AI adoption in the public sector.

Computing power is arriving locally too. Ooredoo launched sovereign AI cloud services built on NVIDIA Hopper GPUs in its Qatar data centers, as reported by RCR Wireless in July 2025. In February 2026, Ooredoo announced with Oracle a sovereign cloud and AI platform to run from its own data centers. Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar announced a Bachelor's degree in Artificial Intelligence on August 20, 2025, adding to the local talent pipeline.

What AI jobs exist in Qatar?

Listings show real but modest numbers. Glassdoor showed 44 machine learning listings in Qatar in August 2026, 112 "AI" listings in February 2026, and 149 "data science" listings in February 2026. Employers shown in these searches included QNB and Qatar University. These are dated snapshots. Counts change daily and depend on the exact search words.

Machine learning engineer

These engineers build, test, and deploy models. Listing wording we saw included designing and evaluating multimodal AI models and turning research into "scalable, production-ready systems." Expect to work with data engineers and software developers, so software skills matter as much as model skills.

AI engineer

This title is used broadly. One senior listing we saw asked for a deep understanding of asset-heavy industries such as oil and gas, manufacturing, or utilities. That points to a Qatar-specific pattern: employers often want AI skills combined with knowledge of their own industry.

Data scientist

Glassdoor showed 12 data scientist listings in Doha in March 2026, far fewer than the broader data science count above. Many data roles are titled data analyst or data engineer, so search widely. Qatar Living's July 2026 guide lists data scientist and AI engineer pay at QAR 22,000 to 42,000 a month, all-in. It calls these guidance figures, not guarantees. For analyst, business intelligence, and data engineering roles, see our guide to data science jobs in Qatar.

Arabic language and NLP specialists

QCRI's Fanar model shows that Arabic AI is a local research priority. A Glassdoor listing we saw asked for people to turn complex linguistic theory into production systems. We found no count of Arabic NLP listings, so this is a niche to watch, not a proven volume market.

Research scientist

QCRI, part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, says it is expanding its research and engineering teams. Its recruiting page lists opportunities at Scientist, Senior Scientist, and Principal Scientist levels, and also software engineer roles. These jobs usually need a strong record of original research.

Generative AI, AI consultant, and AI product roles

We found no reliable, separate listing counts for these titles in Qatar. Generative AI work appears to sit inside broader AI and machine learning titles. Titles such as AI consultant or AI product manager do exist in the wider market, but check current Qatar listings before you plan around them.

Skills and qualifications employers ask for

This section combines listing wording with our own analysis, which we mark. Common technical asks are Python, statistics, machine learning libraries, SQL, and cloud platforms. For research roles, a master's degree or PhD is typical. For engineering roles, a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is the usual starting point. In our view, a portfolio of two or three finished projects carries more weight than a long list of course certificates.

Vendor certifications can help you show cloud and machine learning skills. Check the current lists from AWS, Microsoft, and Google Cloud, because exams are replaced often. Our guide to IT skills in demand in Qatar covers the wider skill set.

Which industries hire AI talent?

These examples come from listings and employer lists on Glassdoor's Qatar pages and from the reports above. They are not a full survey.

  • Banking: QNB appeared among employers for machine learning roles.
  • Energy: a senior AI listing asked for oil, gas, or utilities knowledge, and QatarEnergy appeared among employers for technology roles.
  • Telecoms: Ooredoo is building AI cloud services in Qatar.
  • Government: MCIT's GovAI program aims to promote AI in the public sector.
  • Universities and research: Qatar University, QCRI, and Hamad Bin Khalifa University.

Data rules and ethics you should know

AI work uses data, and Qatar has rules for it. Qatar's personal data privacy law, Law No. 13 of 2016, applies when personal data is processed electronically, and it requires organizations to apply security measures. Qatar also published principles and guidelines for the ethical use of AI in 2025, according to the July 2026 U.S. Commerce Department report. Employers hiring AI staff care about both, so handling data responsibly is part of the job, not an extra.

How to show AI experience without an AI job

This is our analysis. Employers want proof that you can finish a working system. A strong project has a clear problem, real data, a model you can explain, and a simple way to run it, such as a small web app or a notebook that anyone can open. Write a short description covering the problem, the data, the method, the result, and what you would improve. Two or three projects like this, kept on GitHub, give an interviewer something concrete to ask about. Open datasets and public competitions are good sources of practice problems.

Rules that affect who can apply

Some jobs may be reserved for Qatari nationals under Law No. 12 of 2024, as Crowell & Moring explains. If a listing looks restricted, ask the employer. Your work visa is sponsored by your employer, and foreign degrees must be attested. Our guide to getting an IT job in Qatar explains both.

A realistic career path

This is our analysis. Many people reach AI roles through an earlier data or software job. A common route is data analyst or software developer, then data engineer or machine learning engineer, then senior or lead roles. The research route runs through a graduate degree to scientist positions. Because listings for senior AI roles often ask for many years of experience, expect to build experience in a related role first.

How to prepare

  • Learn Python and the basics of statistics and machine learning.
  • Build two or three projects with real data, and publish them with clear write-ups.
  • Learn one cloud platform, because AI work runs on cloud infrastructure. See our guide to cloud computing jobs in Qatar.
  • Pick an industry, such as energy, banking, or health, and learn its data and problems.
  • If you are a student in Qatar, look at local programs such as Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar's AI degree and Hamad Bin Khalifa University's science and engineering programs.
  • Watch events. World Summit AI Qatar and Web Summit Qatar have hosting agreements in Doha, per the July 2026 U.S. Commerce Department report.

Where to search for AI jobs in Qatar

Use job boards, employer career pages, and research institutions such as QCRI. Our guide to getting an IT job in Qatar lists the main boards, explains degree attestation for your work visa, and shows how to check that a job offer is real.

Real problems people run into

  • There are few AI listings. That is normal for a young market. Search related titles such as data scientist, data engineer, and software engineer, and set alerts.
  • Senior roles ask for years of experience. Build experience in a related role, and use projects to show your AI skills. If you are a new graduate, see our guide to IT jobs in Qatar for freshers.
  • I do not have a research background. Focus on engineering roles, where production skills count more than publications.
  • I am unsure how much to earn. Treat published ranges as guidance, and ask whether an offer is basic or all-in. Our guide on end of service gratuity explains why that matters.
