Data Science Jobs in Qatar in 2026: Roles, Skills, and Career Path
Quick answer
Data science jobs in Qatar include data analysts, business intelligence analysts, data engineers, and data scientists. Analyst and business intelligence roles have the most listings, while data scientist titles are fewer. Listings usually ask for SQL, Python or R, a dashboard tool such as Power BI or Tableau, and a degree in a quantitative field. Senior roles can ask for several years of experience.

"Data science" is used loosely. Employers hire for four related jobs: analysts who explain what happened, business intelligence specialists who build dashboards, engineers who build the pipelines that move data, and scientists who build predictive models. This guide separates them so you can see where the openings are in Qatar. Numbers are dated and linked, and we say where evidence is thin.

For machine learning and AI-specific careers, see our guide to AI jobs in Qatar. For the whole tech market, see the most in-demand IT jobs in Qatar.

Why data hiring is growing in Qatar

Qatar's Digital Agenda 2030, launched February 27, 2024, targets about 26,000 job opportunities by 2030, according to the Qatar News Agency. Its transformation areas include smart cities and e-government, which both run on data. Qatar also has a data protection law, Law No. 13 of 2016, so people who handle data need to understand privacy and security duties.

Data work also follows infrastructure. Qatar now has local cloud regions and sovereign cloud plans, and one data engineer listing we saw preferred experience with Azure cloud data platforms. Our guide to cloud computing jobs in Qatar covers those regions. Across the Gulf, the Hays GCC Salary Guide 2026 found that 90 percent of organizations reported skills gaps in 2025. That survey covers the whole GCC, not Qatar alone.

What data jobs exist in Qatar?

Counts depend on the exact search words, so these are dated snapshots. Glassdoor showed 151 data analyst listings in Qatar in May 2026, 244 data engineer listings in March 2026, 91 "BI" listings in August 2026, and 149 "data science" listings in February 2026. By contrast, it showed only 12 "data scientist" listings in Doha in March 2026. NaukriGulf showed 10 data analyst vacancies in August 2026 and 9 data scientist vacancies in September 2026.

The pattern is clear even if the exact numbers move. In our reading, analyst, BI, and engineer roles are far more common than roles titled data scientist. That matters if you are planning a career.

Data analyst

Analysts collect, clean, and explain data so managers can decide. One Bayt listing we saw described a senior analyst who turns complex data into actionable strategies, and another Glassdoor analyst listing asked for at least seven years of experience. Experience asks vary a lot, so read each listing.

Business intelligence analyst

BI analysts build dashboards and reports. Glassdoor showed 25 business intelligence analyst listings in February 2026, and NaukriGulf showed 13 BI vacancies in August 2026. This is often the most accessible entry into data work.

Data engineer

Data engineers build and run the pipelines that feed everyone else. Listing wording we saw included big data engineering, cloud data platforms with a preference for Azure, machine learning concepts, data architecture, and data governance. Database listings named SQL design and databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.

Data scientist

Scientists build predictive models. The narrow title has few listings, but many roles sit under machine learning or AI titles. Qatar Living's July 2026 guide lists data scientist and AI engineer pay at QAR 22,000 to 42,000 a month, all-in, and calls it guidance, not a guarantee. Our AI jobs guide covers the machine learning side in more depth.

We did not find a reliable list of which employers hire the most data staff, so check the official careers pages of banks, energy firms, telecoms, and government bodies you are interested in.

Skills and qualifications

Listings we saw pointed to SQL, statistics, a scripting language such as Python or R, a dashboard tool, and cloud data platforms. Employers asked for a bachelor's degree in a quantitative or computing field. Microsoft offers a Power BI Data Analyst certification, and cloud vendors offer data certifications. Check current exam lists, because exams are replaced often. Our IT skills guide covers the wider set.

If you want graduate study in Qatar, Hamad Bin Khalifa University offers a Master of Science in Data Science and Engineering. It is a 33-credit program with a two-year standard format and a one-year accelerated option. Students choose a research thesis or an industrial project. Admission asks for a bachelor's degree and a minimum 3.0 GPA, and HBKU lists the two-year program at QAR 132,000. Check the page for current details.

Practice with real Qatar data

This is a Qatar-specific way to build a portfolio. The State of Qatar Open Data Portal, at data.gov.qa, publishes government datasets and a handbook. Portal directories say the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology launched it in 2019 and the Planning and Statistics Authority took over its operation in early 2023. Read the portal's open data license and terms of use before you reuse any dataset.

A good project might clean a public dataset, answer a clear question, build a dashboard, and explain the findings in plain language. Employers can then see how you think, which is more useful than a certificate.

This is our analysis of what makes a data portfolio easy to review. State the question at the top. Show your cleaning steps, because messy data is the normal case. Use a few clear charts instead of many. End with a short conclusion and its limits. Say where the data came from and when it was published, so a reader can check it. And leave out anything that could identify a real person.

How the four data roles differ

This is our analysis. A data analyst answers questions about the past and present, such as which product sold best last quarter. A BI analyst turns those answers into dashboards that managers check every day. A data engineer builds and maintains the pipelines that collect and clean the data. A data scientist builds models that predict what may happen next. The jobs overlap, and small teams often ask one person to do several. Read the responsibilities in each listing, not only the title.

Handling data responsibly

Data jobs often involve personal or sensitive information. Under Law No. 13 of 2016, organizations that process personal data must apply security measures. In practice, this means being careful about who can see data, removing personal details when you can, and following your employer's rules. Employers value people who treat this as part of the job.

Which industries hire data talent?

The evidence we found points to banking, energy, telecoms, government, and fintech. A Glassdoor machine learning search listed QNB among employers, Ooredoo is building AI infrastructure, and Qatar's fintech sector is growing under the Central Bank's frameworks. This is a list of examples, not a full survey.

A realistic career path

This is our analysis. A common route is data analyst, then senior analyst or BI developer, then data engineer or data scientist. Another is software developer to data engineer. Because analyst and BI roles are more common, they are a practical first step, and you can grow into engineering or modeling later.

A 90-day plan for a first analyst role

This is our analysis. In the first month, learn SQL until you can join tables, filter, group, and summarize without help. In the second month, learn one dashboard tool, such as Power BI, and rebuild two public dashboards from scratch. In the third month, complete one project with a Qatar dataset from the open data portal, and write a one-page summary of the question, the method, and the result. Then update your CV and LinkedIn profile, and apply to analyst and BI roles. Review five new listings each week and close any repeated gaps.

Where to search

Use job boards and employer career pages. Our guide to getting an IT job in Qatar lists the main boards, explains degree attestation, and shows how to spot fake offers.

Rules that affect who can apply

Some jobs may be reserved for Qatari nationals under Law No. 12 of 2024, as Crowell & Moring explains. If a listing looks restricted, ask the employer. Your work visa is sponsored by your employer, and foreign degrees must be attested.

Real problems people run into

  • I cannot find data scientist jobs. Search analyst, BI, data engineer, and machine learning titles too. Many data roles use those names.
  • Listings ask for many years of experience. Start with analyst or BI roles and build a project portfolio. Our guide to IT jobs in Qatar for freshers covers entry-level routes.
  • I do not have a data degree. Show skills through SQL practice, dashboards, and finished projects, and check whether the employer accepts related degrees.
  • I am unsure what to earn. Ranges are guidance only. Ask whether an offer is basic or all-in, and see our guide on end of service gratuity.

Next steps

Pick one role, read five current listings, and learn SQL and one dashboard tool first. Then build a project with a Qatar dataset and apply.
