Renew Your Qatar Residence Permit on Metrash: Steps, Timing and Fees
How to renew a Qatar residence permit on the Metrash app as the Ministry of Interior describes it, when to start, the reported renewal fees, the national address rule and card delivery.

Renewing a residence permit is a routine task that becomes stressful when you leave it late, because the grace period after expiry is now short. This guide explains the steps, a timeline you can follow, and what we found about fees. We used a Ministry of Interior explanation reported by The Peninsula on 5 April 2026, the renewal details Hukoomi publishes (as quoted in our family visa guide), and a Vialto immigration alert. We could not open Hukoomi's own renewal page this session. It is general information, not legal advice.
The steps on Metrash
The Peninsula reports the Ministry of Interior's sequence:
1. Open the Metrash app and go to the Residency section.
2. Choose Residency Procedures.
3. Select Residency Renewal.
4. Select the person whose permit you are renewing.
5. Pay the fee.
6. Finish the process.
The ministry says this can be done without visiting the General Directorate of Passports or a service center, and that the new card will be delivered through Qatar Post. Check the delivery address in the app before you pay, because that is where the card goes. If Metrash will not open or log you in, see our guide to Metrash not working.
When should you renew?
Hukoomi says renewal can be made 3 months before the expiry date. Our guide to what happens when a residence permit expires explains why you should not wait: reports from June 2026 say the period to stay after a permit expires or is cancelled is now 14 days, with a fine of QAR 10 a day after that. A simple plan:
- **3 months before expiry:** renewal opens. Check the permit date in Metrash and whether anything blocks it.
- **2 months before:** pay traffic fines and settle any other dues. See checking and paying traffic fines.
- **1 month before:** renew, and confirm the delivery address.
- **2 weeks before:** if the new card has not arrived, ask Qatar Post or the ministry.
What does renewal cost?
Hukoomi's Renew Residence Permit service, as quoted in our family visa guide, lists renewals for 1 to 3 years, a fee of QAR 500 for a wife, children and family sponsorships, and a 20 percent discount for a three year renewal. It adds QAR 20 if you choose Qatar Post delivery, and says one person can renew up to five QID numbers at a time. We found no fee for an employee's own permit in the sources we could read, so check the amount in Metrash before you pay. Employers usually handle this, so ask your PRO.
The national address rule
Vialto's immigration alert says registering the national address is mandatory for renewing a Qatar residence permit. If yours is missing or out of date, fix it before you start. Our guide to what to do when the national address is not updated walks through it.
Who can renew for whom?
A search summary of a Qatar Living guide on renewing through Metrash says individuals can renew permits for people under their personal sponsorship on Metrash, and that companies can enroll in automatic renewal with alerts for upcoming expiries, which needs a direct debit arrangement for fees. We could not confirm this on an official page. If you are a family member without your own phone number, read how sponsored family members can use Metrash.
Do you still need a medical test?
A 2018 Peninsula report says reactivating a permit needs a medical test and not fingerprinting. We found nothing that says a routine renewal needs one, so check what Metrash asks for. If a medical appointment is required, see our guide to the medical commission appointment problem.
If the renewal fails
- Check fines, the national address and the sponsor's status.
- Check that the permit is not already cancelled. See Qatar ID expired: what to do.
- For an employee permit, ask the employer or PRO to start it. For a family permit, ask the sponsor.
What we could not verify
- Hukoomi's own renewal page and the fee for an employee's permit.
- Whether a medical test or fingerprinting is needed for a routine renewal.
- Late renewal fines beyond the QAR 10 a day reported after the grace period.
