Qatar Expiry Date Planner: Residence Permit, Istimara and Fahes Deadlines
Enter an expiry date and get the dates to act: when residence permit renewal opens, the 14 day grace period, the reported Istimara renewal window and how long a Fahes report stays valid.

Most expiry problems are not about money. They happen because three different clocks run at once and people count from the wrong date. This planner lets you enter one date for a residence permit, a vehicle registration, a visit visa or a Fahes inspection, and it lists the dates that matter in order. The dates for each rule come from sources our other guides cite. The suggested action dates are our own planning advice, not official deadlines.

The rules behind each document
| Document | What we found | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Residence permit (QID) | Renewal can be made 3 months before expiry. After expiry or cancellation, a 14 day grace period, then QAR 10 a day | Hukoomi (as quoted in our family visa guide); Gulf Times and KPMG, June 2026 |
| Istimara | Generally valid one year. Renewal reported within 30 days after expiry, but an expired vehicle must not be driven | Qatar Living and QIC |
| Visit visa | Permitted stay on the passport sticker or stamp. Overstay reported at QAR 200 a day | Gulf Times, June 2026 |
| Fahes inspection report | Valid for 30 days to complete Traffic Department approval | Fahes FAQ |
Why the order of steps matters
- **Residence permit.** Fines and an out of date national address can stop a renewal, so clear them a month or two ahead. See how to renew a residence permit on Metrash and what to do if the national address is not updated.
- **Istimara.** The Fahes report only counts for 30 days, so inspect close to renewal, not months ahead. Insurance must be valid and fines paid. See Istimara renewal problems, the Istimara grace period and a failed Fahes inspection.
- **Visit visa.** Decide to extend or leave before the last day. See how to extend a visit visa and our overstay fine calculator.
Common mistakes
- Using an old grace period of 30 or 90 days. Reports from June 2026 say 14.
- Reading the Istimara renewal window as permission to drive.
- Inspecting the car too early, so the 30 day Fahes report has expired by renewal day.
- Waiting for the physical card. Qatar Post delivery takes time, so allow a margin.
- Cancelling a family permit weeks before the family can leave. See cancelling a family member's residence permit.
What we could not verify
- Hukoomi's own pages, which blocked our tool, so the 3 month renewal window comes from earlier reading of Hukoomi as quoted in our guides.
- Whether the 14 day grace period is permanent.
- How early an Istimara can be renewed. We found no source.
